Brethren of Chorlton Lodge No 1387 were pleased to welcomed Stuart Shea PAGDC to their installation meeting held at Swinton Masonic Hall.
Stuart was accompanied by grand officer Tony Edden, Eccles Group Chairman Stuart Boyd and acting Provincial grand officer David Marlor. On arriving, Stuart was presented with a bag of traditional Eccles cakes by Stuart Boyd which set the stage for a wonderful evening.
WM of Chorlton Lodge Alan Cavanagh Jnr opened the lodge and carried out the business in the first degree. Stuart then entered the lodge and was greeted by the WM.
At this point the brethren stood as a mark of respect at the sad loss of one of their long serving members, Jeff Bleakley who had passed onto the grand lodge above.
The meeting then continued with the installation of master elect John Maddocks. John was presented for the benefit of installation by DC Alan Cavanagh Snr.
The ceremony was performed in fine style and reverence by installing master Alan Cavanagh Jnr, supported by his father Alan Cavanagh Snr and the rest of the installing officers. John was installed into the chair of King Solomon for the second time.
The working tools were excellently presented by, Alan O Connor, Alan Cavanagh Snr and initiate Jeff Bell. The addresses to the WM was given by Alan Cavanagh Snr and the address to the brethren by Stuart Shea.
The newly installed master then invested his officers for the coming year. The group charity steward Bill Walker addressed the lodge charity steward Arnold Braddock and read the responsibilities of this important office and thanked him for taking this important role.
After the ceremony Stuart brought greetings from the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison and congratulated John on being installed in the master’s chair for the second time. He also congratulated Alan Cavanagh Jnr and Snr and the officers who took part in an excellent ceremony.
In response, John then presented Stuart with cheques in the sum of £200 for the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity, £300 to the Swinton Masonic Hall Building Fund and £50 to the Ecclesholme.
At the festive board, in his response to the toast to the grand officers, Stuart thanked the members of the lodge for their kind hospitality and said how much he had enjoyed the ceremony. He said that he was pleased that the lodge is beginning to show signs of progression and that the future is looking good with two new initiates. He also thanked Stuart Boyd, Tony Edden and David Marlor for their support.
Stuart referred to a number of notices including the Membership Focus Group and the MCF 2021 Festival now coming up to its second year of four. He also emphasised that the PrGM was pleased with the initiatives within the Province and that we should continue to enjoy our Freemasonry.
Nick McCarthy, WM of St Augustine’s Lodge No 9018 responded on behalf of the visitors presenting the newly installed master with the black spot and inviting him to join the circuit of masters.
