Companions of Chapter of Hope No 2679 were delighted to receive Colin Rowling representing the Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison accompanied by grand officers John Hutton, Kevin Poynton, Don Price and Brian Crossley, supported by two acting Provincial grand officers John Hindle and Ezra McGowan.
Colin was welcomed to Elm Bank Masonic Hall by Eccles Group Chairman Stuart Boyd who presented Colin with the traditional Eccles cakes to take home for his supper.
Before the opening of the chapter the first principals were preceded into the meeting by the newly dedicated banner. Harry Cropper was installed as the first principal in the chapter which is now entering it centenary year, something Harry and the other companions have been working towards for a number of years now.
Godfrey Calcutt and Terry Marney were proclaimed second and third principals retaining their office for the ensuing year. Stephen Rhodes delivered an excellent robe address to the first principal as well as the address to the three principals.
Once Harry was safely installed and the officers duly appointed and invested, Colin stood to bring the greetings of the Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison, who he said would have been delighted to witness such a ceremony. Colin went on to thank the new first principal Harry for taking the office and the second and third principals retaining their office for another year. Harry presented Colin with two cheques both for £150 to the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity and The Masonic Charitable Foundation.
In his response at the festive board, Colin expressed his delight at being at Elm Bank with the companions of Chapter of Hope, he congratulated the three principals on being in office for the centenary year and hoped they were enjoying their Royal Arch Masonry.
Colin congratulated all the officers who took part in the ceremony. He also commented on how the up and coming centenary was a testament to all the companions of the chapter and he acknowledge that Harry deserved to be in the chair of first principal given all his hard work for this important event and how Harry was held in high esteem by all the companions.
Colin also thanked Stuart Boyd (Eccles Group Chairman) and Patrick Walsh (Eccles Group Vice Chairman) for all their hard work in the group and congratulated Phil Evans on his promotion as well.
He finally thanked all the companions for a most excellent evening and the hospitality shown to him.
